Overview

COVID-19 is a rapidly emerging, newly identified virus.

No sector will be as challenged by this emerging virus as those working in aged care. This module provide guidance to all those working in aged care including information on what actions to take when there is a suspect or confirmed case of COVID-19 in a residential aged care facility. It provides details on infection control including hand hygiene, standard and transmission based precautions for COVID-19.

Learning Objective

At the end of this module participants will be able to:

  • Describe what COVID-19 is.
  • Know how it is transmitted.
  • Know what precautions to take to minimise transmission in the residential aged care environment.
  • Know what actions to take in the event of a suspected or confirmed case of in a residential aged care facility.
  • Know how to minimise risk of infection.
  • Provide resident and family education on precautions to take to minimise transmission in the residential aged care facility and the community.
