Overview

In the first four modules of this course, we discussed all aspects of selection and insertion of CVADS; the care of CVADs; and how to apply appropriate nursing interventions when complications arise.

In this, the last of the modules in this courses, participants learn about the removal of CVADs. We start with indications for removal and then provide a step-by-step guide to how to remove a CVAD.
This is the 5th and final module in a 5-part course on CVADs.

This course is aimed at all nursing and midwifery practitioners who are involved in the care of people with a CVAD.

This course consists of 5 modules, and it is intended that participants complete the modules in order, moving from one to the next. The 5 modules are:

  3. CVADs: Dressing and needleless connector changes (3 of 5)
  4. CVADs: Troubleshooting complications (4 of 5)

Learning Objective

At the end of this module participants will be able to:

  • Identify the indications for removal of a CVAD.
  • Identify the risk factors for common complications.
  • Implement best practice techniques to avoid and minimise complications.
  • Identify complications when the arise.
  • Identify the Best practice nursing interventions to safely resolve complications.
